A measure supporting an Oregon-led effort to build a new I-5 Bridge across the Columbia River has cleared its first legislative hurdle. On Thursday, Oregon’s House Transportation and Economic Development Committee voted to advance House Bill 4113 to the Legislature’s budget committee – a step toward getting the measure to a full vote.
According to an Associated Press report, voting was split along party lines with democrats supporting the $2.8 billion project and republicans opposed.
The project would reportedly get about a third of its funding from the federal government, with much of the rest coming from tolls. Oregon would take on about $450 million in debt.
