Nearly 600 submit applications for marijuana business licenses

The Washington State Department of Revenue announced today that it has received 585 completed applications submitted online for marijuana business licenses in the past two days. Monday, Nov. 18 was the first day to apply for producer, processor and retailer marijuana business licenses. Applicants have through Dec. 19 to submit their applications, available through the state’s Business Licensing Service.

As of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, 134 of the submitted applications were for producers; 27 for processors; 144 for retailers; and 280 for producer and processor.

The state envisions up to 334 marijuana retail shops opening next year – up to 15 of them in Clark County. The number of production and processing facilities to be licensed is unclear.

Licenses will be approved by the Liquor Control Board, which began processing today.
