Mielke, Madore select Ed Barnes as third county commissioner

Clark County Commissioners Tom Mielke and David Madore selected Edward Barnes, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), to fill an unexpired term on the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday. Barnes fills the District 3 seat vacated in early April by Steve Stuart, who left the county for a position in Ridgefield as city manager.

He will be sworn in at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, prior to the board’s regularly scheduled meeting in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

Barnes retired as business manager for the IBEW Local Union No. 48, and he has held other union positions dating to the 1960s. He served on the Washington State Transportation Commission and on several community boards, including Ronald McDonald House and Open House Ministries Housing Project.

He is a graduate of Vancouver High School and studied at Wharton School of Business, University of Oregon and Marylhurst College. He is also a Korean War veteran.

Barnes was selected over former county commissioner Craig Pridemore and Kelly Love Parker, president of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce.
