Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Kim Capeloto will become executive vice president in charge of operations and marketing at Riverview Community Bank, effective Sept. 15.
The appointment represents a return to the regional banking industry for Capeloto, formerly president and chief operations officer at Bank of Clark County until 2008.
"It has always been my intention to go back to banking, even when I took the interim assignment at the Chamber," he told the VBJ before today's announcement.
First appointed interim president and CEO by GVCC's Board of Directors, Capeloto recently celebrated his second anniversary at the helm of the approximately 1,200-member organization on Aug. 18.
"I found it to be a great opportunity and a great place to work," Capeloto said of GVCC.
According to Capeloto, GVCC's board will convene a nominating committee to identify his replacement – a process he said would happen quickly.
"Kim is an inspiring leader who has taken the Chamber to new heights and set new standards for operations. We're in a very good place from which to take the next step," said GVCC Board Chair Don Russo.
In a newly-created position at Riverview, Capeloto said he planned to boost the Vancouver-based financial institution's visibility in the community with a combination of sponsorships, events and activities.
Capeloto rejoins a community banking sector much different than the one he left more than two years ago.
"I think that all banks, especially community banks, have had a rough couple of years," he said. "But now I think they are excited by the opportunity to come out of the foxhole and become active players in the region again."
