Administrators with the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University have submitted foundational documents to the national accrediting agency for allopathic medical schools in the U.S.
The documents address standards created by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (the accrediting agency), such as how the new school will structure the medical school, how it will be funded and the curriculum that will be taught.
The LCME will consider the application at a meeting next year. If everything checks out, the next step will be a site visit.
“This is a momentous occasion and the culmination of the efforts of many individuals from the college, the university and the community,” said Founding Dean John Tomkowiak. “Today is another exciting step forward in making the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine a reality.”
