The Southwest Washington Contractors Association (SWCA) announced today that its scholarship committee has awarded more than $10,000 in scholarship funds to 12 local students.
The mission of the SWCA Scholarship Program is to build and connect funds with qualified applicants who are enrolling in full-time post-secondary education with preference toward those pursuing degrees in the building and contracting fields. Applicants were selected and awarded scholarships based on their academic performance, work and volunteer experience, extracurricular activities, awards, letters of recommendation and a personal essay.
Among the 12 recipients are multiple recent high school graduates, while others are returning to receive a formal education in trades they have been practicing for years. The individuals utilizing the SWCA scholarship have varying career aspirations including business administration, architecture, building animal habitats, working on low-income housing projects, education, and disaster relief. Each plans to use their education and training to give back to the construction community.

Based in Vancouver, the SWCA has more than 63 years of experience as a resource for the construction industry. It is comprised of general contractors, specialty contractors, engineers, architects, and service companies supportive of the industry.
