The Battle Ground City Council announced on Wednesday that it is considering six finalists to fill the vacant position of city manager. The city received 26 applications for the position, which opened late last year when former City Manager John Williams accepted a position in Moses Lake, WA.
Finalists include: Matthew Brown, senior management analyst for the city of Forest Grove; Daniel Chandler, assistant county administrator/strategic policy administrator for Clackamas County; Robert Maul, planning manager for the city of Camas; Chris Sutter, assistant chief of police for the city of Vancouver; Jeff Swanson, director of economic development for Clark County; and Craig Ward, city manager for the city of Troutdale.
Appointed by the city council, the city manager is responsible for prudent and efficient execution of the council’s legislative polices and budget goals; for the appointment and direction of department directors; and for the daily operations of the city.
Each of the finalists will be interviewed by panels comprised of city council, city staff and members of the community. The public is invited to meet and talk to the finalists at an open house on Thursday, March 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Battle Ground Community Center (912 E. Main Street).
