The city of Vancouver has begun preliminary construction work for the new 7 acre waterfront park along the Columbia River, just west of I-5.
Initial work involves the removal of existing surface obstructions, rough grading, adjusting manholes, installing utility sleeves and preliminary trail work. Preliminary work is expected to be complete by May. Construction of the park will begin this summer.
Officials have described the city’s public park project – which will include a suspended pier, trails and the park itself – as a “huge investment” with a price tag of between $20 million and $25 million.
The park will complement the adjacent 32-acre, mixed-use urban redevelopment project led by Columbia Waterfront LLC, Gramor Development and the city of Vancouver.
