The Port of Kalama has been honored with the Pathways 2020 Community Champions Award for Economic Vitality. The award is given to organizations that excel at creating jobs, employee wellness, training, employable skills, new or expanding business, transportation, financial security, reducing poverty and higher wages.
Pathways 2020, a Cowlitz County nonprofit, also awards individuals and organizations that lead in the areas of education, housing, social cohesion, health and access to healthy foods.
The award comes on the heels of a $200 million renovation of Temco’s grain elevator (a port tenant), and the construction of new administrative offices and a interpretive center. The Port also began construction of Haydu Park, the first phase of development at the recently annexed East Port.
“These projects collectively further every aspect of the port’s mission to contribute to an economically thriving, successful and livable region,” said Randy Sweet, president, Port of Kalama Board of Commissioners. “We are so honored to receive this community recognition.”
Pathways 2020 is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Cowlitz County through collaborative partnerships, resource mobilization, strategic planning and program development.
