Boldt was elected to the county board in 2004, and again in 2008, after serving five terms as a Washington State Representative from District 17. He currently serves as president of the Washington State Association of Counties. Boldt was seeking a third term as a Clark County Commissioner, but lost to David Madore, CEO of U.S Digital, in the November 2012 election.
