Nonprofit symposium in Longview April 22

The Office of Secretary of State’s Corporations and Charities Division is sponsoring a nonprofit and charity education symposium in Longview on April 22.

The seminar, designed for those who help run a charity or nonprofit organization or those serving or considering service on a related board, will be held at the Cowlitz Regional Conference Center (1900 7th Ave.) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The symposium’s main focus is governance. A morning session will address maintaining nonprofit status and legal obligations of boards. The featured presenter is Lorri Anne Dunsmore of Washington Attorneys Assisting Community Organizations.

An afternoon session will focus on state tax requirements for charities and nonprofits, registration and renewal requirements, and special-occasion licensing for bingo, raffles and adult beverages. Presentations will be made by officials with the state Department of Revenue, Liquor Control Board, Gambling Commission and Office of Secretary of State.

The event will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

Cost to attend is $10. For more information, contact Teresa Glidden at 360.725.0373 or teresa.glidden@sos.wa.gov.
