The site will be named the Florence Wager Community Garden, in memory of the longtime advocate for parks and recreation who passed away in August. A private donor has contributed $5,000 toward the project in her honor.
14-year-old Chad Richards is coordinating the community gardens as part of his Eagle Scout project. Shur-Way Building Centers will provide materials for 16 cedar raised beds at a reduced cost.
A volunteer work party has been scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the park. Volunteers will spread gravel, build the garden beds and spruce up the nearby demonstration gardens.
