New book highlights Greater Portland Export Initiative

The Greater Portland Export Initiative is highlighted as a national best practice in the new book “The Metropolitan Revolution” by Bruce Katz and Jennifer Bradley of the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program.

The book, released earlier this month, chronicles the successes of metro leaders across the country who face major economic and social challenges and recognize that Washington is not coming to their rescue.

The Greater Portland Export Initiative was launched in early 2012, and is spearheaded by Greater Portland Inc., along with regional partners including the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council.

The goal of the initiative is to double regional exports over the next five years using a number of strategies including branding and marketing the region’s expertise in clean tech, and providing expertise for small and medium firms that do not yet export.
