Maul Foster Alongi client wins brownfield award

Maul Foster Alongi Inc. (MFA), a Vancouver-based consultant in brownfields, recently announced one of its clients has been presented with The Oregon Brownfield Award for an outstanding brownfield project.

The client, ZRZ Realty, a Zidell company, received the award for a recently completed $20 million integrated waterfront cleanup. The 32-acre property, which lies alongside the Willamette River beside condominium towers and the aerial tram in Portland’s South Waterfront District, is the largest undeveloped, single-owner parcel of land in the city of Portland.

MFA was chosen to be Zidell’s environmental consultant and lead engineer on a team of engineers, scientists and construction specialists working to clean up contamination on the property in preparation for redevelopment.

“MFA has had the privilege of working on this site from the beginning of characterization activities to redevelopment,” said Jim Maul, president of Maul Foster Alongi. “This project is important to our region and we have the owner of the property, Jay Zidell to thank for giving us the opportunity and resources to create a great outcome.”

In total, 23,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil was removed, together with 400 tons of scrap steel. Additionally, MFA said the clean up remedies were subject to rigorous scientific analysis.
