HCI Industrial and Marine Coatings, Inc., a Vancouver-based industrial painting contractor, earned the international CREST Safety Award at the recent Finishing Contractors Association (FCA) conference in Chicago.

The award recognizes contractors who are leaders in safety. This was HCI Industrial and Marine Coating’s third consecutive international win in the category of industrial contractors with 25,001 to 50,000 hours worked.

“HCI’s mission statement is ‘Safety, Quality and Production’ in that order,” said company president Kim Hasselbalch. “We have instilled in our employees that safety is a value, not merely a list of rules that a regulatory agency has mandated we follow. We convey to our personnel that there is always a way to do a difficult or hazardous task safely, and we are willing to invest the time and resources into them and provide the equipment and necessary materials for their protection.”

The FCA CREST Awards began in 2011 to recognize excellence in safety training. Winners are selected based on key safety metrics such as training, injury/illness rates and recordable incident rates.
