The Vancouver Business Journal is proud to announce that former Vancouver Mayor Bruce Hagensen has been selected to receive the Kyle W. Corwin Legacy Builder Award. The award recognizes one person annually who has spent their career leading, mentoring, building a business and giving back.
Hagensen served as mayor of the city of Vancouver from 1987-1995. Prior to that, he spent six years as a member of the Vancouver City Council.
Born and raised in Clark County, Hagensen graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in the 1962. He earned a degree in political science from Stanford University in 1967.
Hagensen began his professional career as a sales trainee at Memorex Corporation in Portland. He would eventually join his family’s business at Vancouver Sign Company in Hazel Dell, functioning as owner/operator from 1974 through 2005.
Honored as a First Citizen in 1995, Hagensen has volunteered his time in the community by serving on a long list of nonprofit, education and economic development boards, including the Columbia River Economic Development Council, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Redevelopment Authority.
He currently serves as chairman of the Regional Committee on School District Organization and as a board member at the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust.
