Food Bank details expansion plans, launches new capital campaign

The Clark County Food Bank has launched a $900,000 capital campaign to help fund new educational programming.

The “Beyond Hunger” campaign, which kicked off with a $250,000 lead gift from the Firstenburg Foundation, will allow the food bank to teach more individuals, families and youth how to budget for, shop for and prepare nutritious foods. Additionally, the campaign aims to strengthen partner pantries and includes the creation and implementation of a longitudinal impact study to measure the effectiveness of nutritional education programming.

A new 4,400-square-foot expansion of the food bank will allow the organization to offer these expanded services. Construction on the new addition is expected to begin later this month.

“This campaign is not just about a building. It’s about what that building makes possible,” said Alan Hamilton, executive director of the food bank. “This cornerstone gift from the Firstenburg Foundation will help us teach more families, youth, and individuals how to nourish their bodies on limited budgets and truly work toward ending a cycle of poor health and poverty.”
