County extending hours, increasing staff for marriage license department

The Clark County Marriage License department will increase its staff two days next week and add Saturday hours as the state law legalizing same-gender marriage takes effect.

Beginning Thursday, Dec. 6, same-gender couples in Washington may apply for a marriage license. Auditors’ offices throughout the state expect an influx of couples seeking licenses, and are gearing up to accommodate them.

Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey said he urges couples to complete a license application online before coming to the office. Applications and more information about the process can be found at www.clarkmarriagelicense.org.

The marriage license office is on the second floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. in Vancouver.
