The Clark County Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board will honor employers, workers and community members next month at the annual Disability Employment Awareness Event.

The Clark County Community Awards honor the role people with developmental disabilities have in achieving a dynamic, productive workforce and leadership in the business community. The event marks October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and is co-sponsored by the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and New Seasons Market.

Awards will be given in the following categories:

  • Large Employer of people with developmental/intellectual disabilities (50 or more local employees)
  • Small Employer of people with developmental/intellectual disabilities (49 or fewer local employees)
  • Employee with a developmental/intellectual disability
  • Dennis Campbell Outstanding Service Award for improving the lives of individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities
  • Innovative New Hire (employer), demonstrating advancement in the community, employment and opportunities for people with developmental/intellectual disabilities and the business community

The event takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Heathman Lodge (7801 NE Greenwood Dr. in Vancouver).

Local business owner Curt Warner will be the keynote speaker.
