Port of Vancouver USA consultant NBBJ will present four waterfront design concepts for the port’s 10-acre development at Terminal 1 during a Board of Commissioners workshop tomorrow (Tuesday, August 11). The commission workshop is open to the public and will be broadcast live and recorded on www.cvtv.org.
Concept 1, or “Baseline,” would retain the area’s current street grid and block configuration, restoring the Terminal 1 building to its original length and replacing the current amphitheater with a terraced lawn.
Concept 2, or “Grid Shift,” would modify the street grid and block configuration and create “woonerf” plaza spaces designed to accommodate pedestrians and vehicles. Additionally, it involves the removal of the current amphitheater, replacing it with a new cove and returning Terminal 1 to its original size.
Concept 3, or “Daniels Way,” would extend Daniels Way to the site through a pedestrian underpass and relocate the Terminal 1 building. It would replace the current amphitheater with a terraced shoreline and a wooden pier for river views.
Concept 4, or “Dock Restoration,” would stabilize and restore the existing dock and pilings, and disassemble and reconstruct Terminal 1 at the current amphitheater location. A new hotel would complement the Terminal 1 building marketplace.
Port commissioners are expected to vote on a preferred alternative in September.
