The Building Industry Association (BIA) of Clark County’s Green Building Council (BGC) and the city of Vancouver both received National Green Building Standard (NGBS) Green Partners in Excellence awards from Home Innovation Research Labs.
The annual awards are given in recognition of outstanding contributions to advancing green building. Both the city and the BIA’s Green Building Council received awards in the “Program Advocate” category.
“The city wants to reflect community values of sustainable development,” said Vancouver building official Sree Thirunagari. “We are proud to partner with the BIA of Clark County to help offer these kind of development options and to become a community resource for innovation and energy efficiency, cost savings and improved quality of life.”
The Vancouver City Council adopted NGBS’ Voluntary Green Construction Standards in April. The standards provide guidance for the design, construction and operation of green buildings and homes.
“It’s been very rewarding to work with the city of Vancouver and see these building practices embraced by city officials,” said GBC Chair Aaron Helmes of Urban NW Homes. “The Green Building Council’s purpose is to cultivate, unify and promote the green building industry. We invite others involved in this work to join us in supporting continued sustainable practices in the development and building of communities in Vancouver.”
