JOHN “JJ” BURKE Woodland Chamber of Commerce names new director The Woodland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has named John “JJ” Burke as its new chamber director. Burke, a computer repair business owner, is a long-time member of the chamber and has been heavily involved in the community for more than a decade.

“JJ was a natural choice. He brings a deep and proven interest in seeing Woodland’s success not only in business, but in continuing to be a great community,” said Woodland Chamber of Commerce Board President Judy Bartlett. “We couldn’t be more excited to have JJ as our new director.”

Burke moved to Woodland after retiring as a senior chief petty officer in the United States Coast Guard. He is a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and is the reigning Woodland Chamber Citizen of the Year.

Schauermann, Thayer, Jacobs & Staples P.S. recently announced the hiring of attorney Scott Edwards.

Edwards joins the Vancouver-based personal injury law firm having worked for nearly four years representing insurance companies and their clients at the insurance defense firm of Smith, Freed and Eberhard in Portland and later as in-house counsel at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

The firm said Edwards’ first-hand experience with how insurers make decisions and what makes them tick will be of great value in his new role.
