This month’s featured emerging leader is Kelsey Oran of Hancock Commercial Real Estate.
Name: Kelsey Oran
Title: Principal Broker & Partner at Hancock Commercial Real Estate
How do you define leadership?
I believe leadership is about using one’s gifts to influence and elevate those around us. Leaders are most influential when they are authentically themselves.
What accomplishment you are most proud of in the last 12 months? What obstacles did you have to overcome?
I’m so proud of our team’s recovery from the closures and obstacles caused by the pandemic over the past 12 months. Hancock Real Estate is a small team of seven real estate agents, and between fluctuations in client needs, space changes, market fluctuations, personal issues, and more, our team has reminded me once again why we do this commercial real estate work so well. They are professional, trustworthy, and full of integrity. I’m extremely proud of the work we do and the team I work with.
Personally, this year I became a co-owner of our business and am excited to invest in an exciting career. While commercial real estate investing has been my heritage, it’s become even more powerful to leverage that enthusiasm to help others manage their legacy. I sometimes pinch myself when I think about the transactions and projects we work on with our clients.
What has you most excited about Salem right now? Why?
There’s so much to be excited about in Salem right now. Being located in the Willamette Valley, we’re surrounded by a rich agricultural community, massive investment in the industrial sector, and exciting innovations in new businesses and commerce. There’s nowhere else I’d rather work in commercial real estate right now. Salem is uniquely positioned for redevelopment, with vibrant community partners in the public and private sectors. Plus, spring in Salem means there’s something right around the corner: Marion Blackberry Cobbler.
What’s one item under $50 that you think every Salem Emerging Leader should have? Why?
Since a weighted blanket is over $50, I’d say a gift card to one of our fantastic local establishments. Take them out to lunch and ask what they’d like.
